Bare

His name is Bare. No it’s not a typo. It’s actually spelled right and for good reason. He is a 10 yr old Chinese Crested / Beagle mix. He is a mostly hairless dog hence the name “Bare” as in naked.

Bare belonged to my boss’s daughter. She rescued him from the local animal shelter and had him for about a year. I started out fostering him because she didn’t want to take a chance that he wouldn’t find a home if he went back to the SPCA here and asked if I could help and of course I said yes. I put him up on petfinder.com and mentioned him to everyone I knew that was looking for a dog. I answered ads on craigslist looking for a small dog and a few people did have some interest in him but after more than 6 months I gave up looking and he became a permanent resident here. It’s so hard to find an older dog a home….even one as adorable as Bare.

I love Bare’s spirit and he always makes me laugh with his antics. He loves to run and he is so nimble. You’d never know he was an old dog. He created the “chase me game” and plays it with Raven, Atticus & Scooter. I open the gate to the fenced in area in the back yard and he runs the outside perimeter and the other dogs run the inside perimeter. Mureille is usually inside there, too, supervising to make sure no one gets too rough. They usually get tired before Bare does! He loves going on walks but hates being outside in the cold. I always have a sweater or a sweatshirt on him to help keep him warm and he also has a very nice Old Navy Dog coat. We’ve gotten very creative with his wardrobe. We’re all looking forward to the warmer weather, but Bare is especially. He loves to hunt chipmunks in the woods with Sylvester & Scooter. He enjoys sitting on the arm of the recliner next to me while we watch TV and he’s always the first to sit when it’s biscuit time. He is having the time of his life….to tell you the truth…..we all are!!!
