Raven
Atticus and Raven are 2 of 9 puppies that were put in a cardboard box and dumped at a fueling station in Amarillo, TX. Matt was able to get 7 other truck drivers to each take a puppy but there were 2 left and when he called me at 2am and asked me what he should do, of course I told him to bring them home. We had no idea what kind of dogs they were. They were only 8 weeks old and weighed 5 pounds each and were covered in scaly scabs.
Our vet informed us that they were Australian Cattle dogs also known as Heelers which are herding dogs that have a lot of energy, intelligence and an independent streak a mile wide. The scaly scabs were from ring worm. It didn’t take long for the medication to take care of it and they quickly began to grow.
They are 3 years old now and though they are not large dogs, they are each about 65 pounds of solid muscle. They love to wrestle with each other and keep the older dogs on their toes. These dogs are not for the faint of heart. If you own a Cattle Dog, you know exactly what I mean. They are very affectionate but can be extremely destructive if not kept busy. They have chewed through more beds than I can count. We have a very large fenced in area where they get a lot of extra exercise. “A tired Cattle Dog is good Cattle Dog” is my mantra. Atticus loves to play fetch and Raven loves to chase Atticus while he’s trying to play fetch which always interrupts the game but is great fun for her.
